2022 Auction & Giving Drive
Frequently Asked Questions
Your Questions Answered
For new families, the flurry of activity around the Mann
Community Auction & Giving Drive can raise a lot of questions. Hopefully these Q&As
will help alleviate any confusion, get you excited to attend, and motivate you
to participate! If you need any more information, just ask...we are happy to help!
Q: What is the Mann Auction? Is it
fun?
A: The Mann Community Auction is the main PTA fundraiser and
raises money for personnel and programs at Mann. Your child’s class has two
teachers, in part, because the PTA is able to raise money for a second teacher
in each classroom. The Mann Auction really fun—and you should participate!
It’s a chance to meet new people in the Mann Community, donate for a good
cause, and come home with some amazing items!
This year’s Auction theme
is “Come Together” and will be held on April 30, 2022.
Q: Will the Auction and Giving Drive be person? What
is the Online Auction?
A: Mann will host an auction on April 30, 2022. We are
hoping that it will be in person and will send more information regarding
logistics out after we receive more information regarding COVID-19 precautions
and practicalities. If the auction is not in person, we will have a fun virtual
event with entertainment and so please save the April 30 date in all cases.
The Online Auction is a chance for you to bid on items in advance of the Live
Auction and it will open April 8, 2022. This is a great opportunity to bid
on parties and family-created items, summer camps, restaurant gift cards,
services by local businesses, homemade items, even vacation getaways!
There are items for bidding at every price point.
Q:
I am also hearing about Class Baskets. What are those?
A: Each class creates a theme basket filled with donated
items that will be available on April 30, 2022. This is a very popular item,
and always sells very well at the auction.
Q: Sounds great! How can I
help?
A: The Auction can only be a success with YOUR help!
We need every family to participate. We are asking for each family to aim
for donating three (3) items for auction. This doesn’t mean you need to
purchase items to donate; we are asking that you solicit donations from area
businesses and restaurants, camps, gyms, etc. Please keep the Mann
Auction in mind as you go about your daily lives. Ask your hairdresser to
donate services, ask a favorite store to donate an item, or consider donating your
talents. Think about what you are good at and offer that: have a
knack for baking? Donate a basket of treats! Great at organizing?
Donate a few hours of your time to organize someone’s closet….no item is too
big or too small!! Have some extra
bottles of wine around the house? Donate
them to the Wall of Wine.
Q:
Do I need to have expensive things to participate in the auction?
A:
Absolutely not! Mann
Families are encouraged to use their creativity for donations. Some families
choose to donate a “movie night” where they host a few kids at their home for
movie and fun (this is called a “sign up party”), other families may donate a
park play date or nature walk (this is another version of a “sign up party”). Mann Families can also donate goodies like
homemade cookies, candies, or homemade “meal delivery.” Use your creativity!
Also do not be afraid to ask local businesses to help.
Q: How do I keep track of what is going
on?
A: It’s a lot, I know! But, it is very important
to read the emails from Skye, the auction chair. It may seem like a LOT of information is
being sent home, but the Auction is important. You won’t want to miss any
key information!
Q: OK, so remind me again… what is
it I need to do?
A: Here are the ways you can contribute to the Auction’s
success. Your participation is both needed and appreciated!
o Be
sure to open (and read!) the emails from Skye about the auction
o Solicit
donations for the Live and Online Auctions (we ask for 3 donations per family; if you are not able to donate items/experiences, please consider a cash donation to help)
o Contribute
items to the Class Auction Basket
o Consider
donating a bottle of wine each Wednesday for the Wall of Wine (this will be a
feature of the Live Auction); details on this will be forthcoming.
o Log
on and bid on items available on the Online Auction (opens April 8, 2022)
o Get a ticket and attend the Auction on April 30, 2022 (links for tickets coming soon).
Remember, our art, science, performing arts, and partner teachers are funded
directly by this event. It is critical
that we reach our goals to ensure we continue to provide the amazing education
that our children get each day at Horace Mann!
