Auction Action of the Week: Summer camps!
It will soon be Valentine’s Day, when all Washingtonians’ thoughts turn to hearts and flowers and... that romantic time of year when the kid will be heading off to Summer camps!
So, since many of you have likely already signed up your children for camps of all sorts—day, sleep-away, sports, arts, STEM, adventure, music, language, etc.—would you please circle back, and ask those camps for a donation to the Mann Auction? (Check with us, if you want to know if they’ve already given.)
Here are some camps that we would especially like to be able to offer for bidding. If you have a connection, kindly reach out:
- Edmund Burke Summer in the City
- Calleva
- Cleveland Park Club
- FourSoccer
- Harbor Camp
- Landon Summer
- Montgomery County Skating (and other) Camps
- Sidwell Summer
- Summer at WES
- Camp Letts (YMCA)
Plus any others that your children enjoy...
And stay tuned for s’more auction updates. 😎

Happy January, Mann Families!
This week, we are all about things you just don't want or need: gift cards galore and unwanted holiday presents!
Maybe you received a Zappos.com gift card--and you insist on trying on those stilettos or loafers in person before purchasing. (Reasonable assumption on our part?) Or maybe your in-laws in Oklahoma didn't realize that the closest Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is 24 miles away in Sterling, VA. (Look, we love road trips as much as the next person, but that's a long way to go to get your Southern favorites. 😎)
No worries, the Online Auction Committee is here to help: any gift card/certificate with an expiration date of March 20, 2018 or later, we will take off your hands! It's as easy as filling out an auction form here, and then dropping it off in the collection bin in the atrium and entering online here .
Same goes for those unloved holiday presents. You might not appreciate that orange lava lamp, but to another person, it is the bee's knees of retro decor. (Sorry, we might be mixing up our twentieth century decades here.) But anything that is new with tags or in its original box--at any price point--is likely something that someone else will bid on. One man's trash... are we right?
So, get a jump on your Spring cleaning and donate to the Mann Auction TODAY! Your over-flowing closets, cupboards, and drawers will thank you, and so will we—and we promise not to tell your in-laws.
Reubens and Thai food and burritos, oh my!
Sure, D.C. has plenty of fancy, special occasion restaurants. But sometimes, you just want to go where everybody knows your name...or at least your “usual”.
So this week, grab a Mann Auction form here and bring it with you when you head out on your weekday lunch break. Whether it’s a food truck on the street, ethnic cuisine in your building’s lobby, or comfort stand-bys at your favorite boîte, chances are...if it’s your go-to lunch place,* then someone else will enjoy it, too!
Eat lunch this season for a good reason--your child's education!
* Including, but not limited to: diners; delis; chains; fast food restaurants; joints; sandwich shops; trattorias; pizzerias; tables; counters; stands; cafes; grills; cantinas; shacks; and even bars, lounges, and taverns. (Hey, we are not judging here!)
Auction Action of the Week: Solicit A Haircut (and/or a Shave!)
Why don't you get a haircut? You look like a chrysanthemum.
- P. G. Wodehouse
A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.
- Coco Chanel
I used to get a haircut every Saturday, so I would never miss any of the comic books. I had practically no hair when I was a kid!
- R. L. Stine
It is shear madness, so here is an important Public Service Announcement from your friendly neighborhood Auction Committee: it is time to book that holiday haircut, the one that will make you feel like a new person, the one your in-laws will begrudgingly agree looks good on you.
And when you make the appointment—even if you are fa-la-la-licle-y challenged—use the opportunity to request an item for the 2018 Mann Online Auction. Bring a donation form (click here) to your hairdresser, barber, or master stylist this week. And don’t forget to solicit any other persons who provide those salon and spa services that keep you looking marvelous, darling, from head to toe!
With Thanks from Your Online Auction Committee
